Cutlass plants are an attractive, narrow-leaved form of Aglaonema that have been cultivated by ornamental plant enthusiasts for some time. Though not new to the industry, their sharp appearance still earns them a place in the demand of the public and the offerings of Winter Gardens.
As a type of Aglaonema, the care of your cutlass will be nearly identical to that of other Aglaonemas, such as Silver Queen. Place your cutlass in an indoor location receiving dappled, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight, and maintain a reasonable room temperature for your plant (and for yourselves!).
Be careful not to over-water your cutlass. In diffuse sunlight, your cutlass’s root zone should dry out at least halfway before any additional moisture is applied. Since plants use less water in lower light levels, be even more stingy when watering plants in lower-light conditions. This will help to prevent root rot.
Finally, fertilization every two months with a balanced fertilizer during the spring and summer should keep your cutlass happy. As with most plants, it is wise to withhold fertilizer applications during the winter rest period.
If you’ve already grown Silver Queen or other Aglaonema plants, then you are already familiar with caring for this type of plant! Or maybe you are just trying an Aglaonema for the first time…. Either way, our goal is that your experience with Aglaonema cutlass will be one you’d like to repeat!
